The Bamboo Wall House, by architect Kengo Kuma, wqas completed in 2002 as part of the multi-dwelling project Commune by the Great Wall near Beijing, conceived by developers Zhang Xin and Pan Shiyi. Requirements were to use local materials and conform to the topography, and Kuma chose to make maximum use of cheap bamboo normally used for construction scaffolding in China, to match the roughness of the surrounding landscape.
